Method
- The tea stand was in a good condition and only needed a good sanding to remove the varnish. When sanding varnish from wood, use a fine grade of sandpaper to prevent the wood from being scratched. Wipe it with a damp cloth to clean off any sanding dust.
- Place the tea stand on old newspapers and paint the legs and the trays with gold paint. I used an acrylic paint and a small foam roller for a smooth finish. Apply two to three coats. Between each coat, leave the paint to dry, gently sand it with a fine sandpaper and wipe away any dust with a damp cloth before applying the next layer.
- Measure the inside base of the two wooden trays and cut the wall paper as per those measurements.
- Measure half of the circumference and the full range of the drop leaf and cut two pieces of wall paper as per those measurements.
- Use a sponge brush and spread a layer of wallpaper glue on the wrong side of the wallpaper. Place the wallpaper presentation side-up in the tray and on the drop leave, push it firmly against the wood with your hands. Wipe away any excess glue with a damp cloth. Repeat the process on each tray and drop leaf.
- Allow to dry and varnish with a water based varnish.
