Recycled items

  • Old small tin

  • Old curtain pole finial with screw end

  • Sheets from an old paperback book/newspaper

Also needed

  • Quick fix cement

  • Potting soil and seeds

    Method

  1. Screw the old curtain pole finial into the bottom of the tin.

  2. Mix together quick fix cement in a bowl (follow the instructions on the pack) and fill the tin to the brim with the cement. Leave aside to dry.

  3. When it’s dry, take the paper and wrap it around the mould.

  4. Bunch the bottom of the paper together underneath the mould.

  5. Do the same thing with an extra sheet, covering the seam of the first piece of paper.

  6. Press the paper-covered mould down on a hard surface to make it sturdy.

  7. Remove the mould and your sheets should stand up as a little paper pot, which you can then fill with soil and plant some seeds in.

  8. Place them next to each other in a wooden frame to support each other.

  9. When the seedlings appear, you can place the paper pot in a plastic or ceramic pot and support with more soil. No need to remove the paper from the seedlings.
