Cement bowl

The beauty of this bowl is that its final form is so unpredictable and unique. Each one I have made has a different shape. You could make a tailor-made gift for every family member using this method.

Recycled items

  • Pieces from old blankets or felt fabric

Also needed

  • Deep, round bowl (mould)

  • Clingfilm

  • Big bowl and spoon to mix the cement

  • Quick set cement

  1. Cover the round bowl with clingfilm and place it on a bottle to raise it above the surface. Place it on a flat surface covered with newspaper (the cement will drip a lot).

  2. Cut a round circle with a circumference 10cm bigger than the size of the round bowl.

  3. Mix the cement according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Add more water for a watery mixture.

  4. Submerge the blanket in the cement mixture for about 5 minutes. Be careful not to leave it in longer, as it will become hard.

  5. Drape the cement-covered blanket over the mould.

  6. The blanket will take on its own shape. Leave it to dry for about 48 hours.

  7. When it is completely dry, remove it from the mould and you can use your newly-made bowl.
