The beauty of this bowl is that its final form is so unpredictable and unique. Each one I have made has a different shape. You could make a tailor-made gift for every family member using this method.
Recycled items
-
Pieces from old blankets or felt fabric
Also needed
-
Deep, round bowl (mould)
-
Clingfilm
-
Big bowl and spoon to mix the cement
-
Quick set cement
Method
-
Cover the round bowl with clingfilm and place it on a bottle to raise it above the surface. Place it on a flat surface covered with newspaper (the cement will drip a lot).
-
Cut a round circle with a circumference 10cm bigger than the size of the round bowl.
-
Mix the cement according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Add more water for a watery mixture.
-
Submerge the blanket in the cement mixture for about 5 minutes. Be careful not to leave it in longer, as it will become hard.
-
Drape the cement-covered blanket over the mould.
-
The blanket will take on its own shape. Leave it to dry for about 48 hours.
-
When it is completely dry, remove it from the mould and you can use your newly-made bowl.
