Polystyrene trees

A2-207

Recycled items

  • Polystyrene or old plastic football cones

  • Leftover tissue paper

  • Terracotta/zink pot

  • Wooden decorations

Also needed

  • Sheet of paper (for template)

  • Pencil

  • Scissors

  • Wallpaper glue

  • Damp cloth

  • Dry moss (I used red ones)

  • Paint that match the tissue paper

  • Glue gun and bullets

Method

  1. Measure the height and circumference of the cone to be decorated.  Measure the circumference around the rim and the base. Use the measurements to draw a rectangle on the sheet of paper, with the circumference measurement(s) as the length. Alternatively, place the cone on a sheet of paper and draw along the top and the bottom while rolling it across the paper. This will be the template.

  2. Use the template and cut out a rectangle from the tissue paper.

  3. Paint wallpaper glue onto the outside of the cone with your fingers, then paste the cut paper rectangle onto the cone, decorative side facing out. Use your fingers to press the paper to the cone from the centre towards the outer edge to remove air bubbles and excess glue.

  4. Leave to dry overnight.

  5. Paint the pot and wooden decorations with a matching colour to the tissue paper, allow to dry.

  6. When everything is dry use the glue gun and glue the cone to the pot, cover the seam with moss and finally the decoration to the top of the cone.
